The CAP Money Course is a free course that will teach you budgeting skills and a simple, cash-based system that works. In just a few weeks, you will get to grips with your finances so you can budget, save and prevent debt.

Whether you feel pretty organised or whether it's like a lucky dip every time you try to withdraw cash from your account, the CAP Money Course will help you take complete control of your finances.
The course will be held on Wednesdays 15th, 22nd and 29th June, from 7pm-9pm at Make and Brew cafe, St James Road Methodist Church (corner of St James Road and Bramston Road, Shirley SO15 5HE). It is completely FREE. You don't need to tell anyone about your financial situation.

The course is run by Christians from St James' by the Park church, but is open to anyone - you don't need to have a faith to attend. Many of those who run the course know what it's like to struggle to make ends meet, and have themselves found this course hugely beneficial in their own lives.

To register for the course, fill in the form below, or contact the church office on 023 8077 1755.

Have some questions about the course? Check out the FAQs further down this page.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What does the course entail, what is the format?
3 sessions for 2 hours during the evening. There's a video, and some talking/explanation from the course leader. There's a work book with notes for you to read and work through examples, if you want to.
The course teaches you budgeting skills and explains how to manage your spending with a simple, cash-based system that works. It will help you get to grips with your finances so you can budget, save and prevent debt.

Do I have to talk about my money and finances?
No, you don't need to tell anyone about your money or finances, and you don't need to bring any details about them either.

Is there homework?
To get the most from the course you will need to spend some time at home applying the principles you have been taught. You will have access to a private account you can create on the CAP website, which you can use to help organise and plan your finances.
No-one will ask to see what you have done, and no-one will have access to it.

Is there group work?
You will be at a table in a small group but it is completely up to you how much you contribute. We have, however, found that those who feel able to join in the conversations tend to get more from the course. You won't be asked to do anything you don't feel comfortable doing..

Is there a test or exam?
No, nothing at all.

Who is running the course?
The course is run by volunteers who are local people who know what it's like to have a hard time with money and want to help others to learn ways to make the most of their money and manage their money situation better.
The trainers have been on a course with CAP (Christians Against Poverty) to train them to run this course.

Do you have to be Christian or go to church to do the course? Does the course talk about religion?
The course is open to anyone, people of any faith or no faith. The course touches on some biblical principles around finding contentment in your situation

I'm not very good with maths, does that matter?
Not at all! The course teaches you ideas and strategies to manage your money and spending, but you don't need to be able to do lots of maths to understand it.
