Serving
Serving in some practical way is one of the best ways to feel connected to our church community, because it gets you working alongside others and making friends. Real spiritual growth often happens as we serve others, too. So we encourage everyone at St James' by the Park to be involved in serving others in some way or other - either informally or in a more organised setting

Here are some of the current needs we have:
The Ark (baby and toddler group)
We'd love to re-start this group in October. Would you be able to help at least once a month on a Friday morning, 9.30am - 12.15pm? Pre-pandemic, we had a church full of people from the local community and it served as a great support to many parents and carers with young children.
You could either be in the main room, helping set out the toys, chatting with the parents, engaging with the children, helping tidy up at the end. Or you could be in the kitchen, making drinks. Or you could just come along at 11.30am to help clear away.
You would need to complete our safe recruitment (formerly known as child protection) process.
Bubbles (junior church group)
Would you be able to help on the first Sunday of the month with our precious 3-5 year old children in our 10am service? You would need to be warm and welcoming, able to chat to young children and their parents and help the leaders deliver the group activity. You'd be welcome to visit to see if it's for you. On the job training and support would be given!

1:1 support for children with additional needs
We have some lovely children with additional special needs. We are looking for people to come alongside them 1:1 to help them get the most from their group time on a Sunday morning and where possible to let their parents have some much needed time in the adult part of the service.
You would need to complete our safe recruitment (formerly known as child protection) process.
Welcomers on a Sunday
As we welcome more and more people back to the building, including some who are joining us for the first time, we need more people to be a friendly face at the door. First impressions last and so a warm welcome can make all the difference to how someone experiences our Sunday gatherings. You'd need to be available 9.30am - 11.30am at least once a month.
Refreshments team on a Sunday
Part of church life is about community - and being able to build friendships over a tea or coffee after our Sunday gatherings is a wonderful time to (re-)build community. But the coffees don't make themselves, and the mugs don't wash themselves! Would you be able to help at least once a month? You'd need to be available 9.30am - 12pm (ie set up before the service, then serve and clear up after the service).
Sunday @3 - lifts
We're looking forward to re-starting our monthly Sunday afternoon service with traditional hymns, tea and cake! Some of our older people need a lift to and from the service - would you be able to help give lifts - either every month or as part of a rota? You'd get to meet some inspiring older saints, and know that you're helping them re-find community and corporate worship after so much isolation.
You would need to complete our safe recruitment process as you would be working with 'vulnerable adults'.
If you're interested in any of these, get in touch with us via the office, and Theresa will put you in touch with the right people to chat through any questions you have.
