The People’s Emergency Briefing – what’s happening, and what can we do?
What is really happening to our climate and natural world – and what might it mean for our everyday lives here in the UK?
The People’s Emergency Briefing is a new 50-minute film, presented by Chris Packham, bringing together leading scientists and experts to give a clear, accessible overview of the climate and nature crisis – and the responses available to us.
Churches are being actively encouraged to help people see the film and to host community screenings. The Church of England is among those promoting it, as part of a remarkably broad ecumenical initiative backed by organisations representing more than 22,000 churches, including Roman Catholic, Methodist, Baptist and United Reformed Church bodies, alongside Tearfund, CAFOD, A Rocha UK and others.
Why the encouragement? Because climate and nature change increasingly affects things that touch all our lives – including food, health, extreme weather, the economy and national security – yet it can be difficult to understand the overall picture or know how to respond.
The aim is therefore not simply to watch a film, but to help people become better informed, talk together about what the evidence means for our communities, and explore constructive and hopeful responses.
