SECRET AGENTS HOLIDAY CLUB We’re looking forward to welcoming 50 children from the local area to this year’s children’s holiday club from 17-19 August! A fabulous team of 25 adults are preparing the games, crafts, Bible stories, songs, sketches and more. If you’re able to bring some recycling for junk modelling (eg loo rolls), lolly sticks, a bell or horn with a funny tune, circus skills stuff, plants for display or a lockable box (eg tool box) to fit 50 pens, let us know!
SUNDAY @ 3 GARDEN PARTY The annual Sunday @ 3 Garden Party is on 16 August - at 3pm. If you know an older person who’d like some company and cake, scones and tea - please invite them along! It’s at a local house in Shirley - contact the office to book your places. It’s free!
ST JAMES BY THE PARK TURNS 190 Our church turns 190 this month! It was consecrated on 20 August 1836, having been built for the grand cost of £2800 (with a vicarage included)! On Sunday 30 August, we won’t have a morning service, but will have a picnic in the park to celebrate our birthday. Bring some food to share.
ADULT BAPTISMS We’re going to have some adult baptisms on Sunday 6 September. If you haven’t been baptised, but are a follower of Jesus (however new you are to faith, or however feeble a follower you feel) - now’s your chance! Get in touch with Dan via the office and you can chat it through with him.
CRAFT MARKET Do you love making things - jewellery, cards, photos, cushions, throws, ceramics, macrame, art? Our next craft fair is on 3 October - we’d love you to sell some items in aid of Restore & Renew. Get in touch with fundraising@stjamesbythepark.org if you can join in
Building Project Update
Thank God for ...
The Laing Trust have given us £25,000 towards the renovation of the Parish Hall.
The quiz night raised around £2000 and the stall in the Park’s Family Fun Day raised £180.
Work on the building is progressing well, with the first run of plumbing and electrics underway and all the solar panels installed.
With some money we’ve saved elsewhere, we’re adding in some air conditioning to the upstairs room as our climate changes.
A group met recently to pray and begin discerning how we can use the Hall for mission when it is finished.

The acoustic panelling is stuck in customs, and that’s slowing down the work a little bit - pray that gets to us quickly and the builders are able to catch up.
We’re still waiting to hear from two further grants we’ve applied for - pray the Lord would provide all we need.
The City Council are considering our planning application for the next part of Restore & Renew - the church office - and we’re expecting a first quote for that work soon.
The team considering how the Hall should be run - hire fees, policies, marketing etc have a lot of work to do.
The team finalising the kitchen layout and equipment plans.
We’re exploring the staffing options for how the hall will be managed - so that it’s used for mission, not just income generation!
