Day 18: Morning Star
Have you ever been away from the city on a clear dark night looking up at the stars? What can be more amazing than gazing on a star-spangled sky, and the more intently we look the more stars we notice - noticing leads to wonder, and wonder leads to worship. The Morning Star is the last one to be seen before the sun rises and it continues to shine after the others have faded away, heralding the start of a new day. Jesus is called the bright Morning Star in Revelation 22 v16. This reminds me that Jesus outshines everything else in life; all the things that now shine so brightly and seem so significant now may one day fade away – but Jesus will not.
In ancient times travellers and seafarers would have been guided by the stars, and the Magi were guided to Jesus by a star. Jesus, the Morning Star, is the one from whom we take our bearings through our life’s journey.
Activity: Cut out a star in shiny card to hang on your tree to remind you of Jesus the Morning Star
Prayer: Take time tonight (or early morning!) to gaze up at the stars, and worship Jesus the bright Morning Star.
If you can, pray also for Christmas on the Green happening today on Colebrook Green.
