Baptisms
We love welcoming babies and families into our church community. We offer three slightly different sorts of welcome, to reflect the differing stages that parents are at on their own spiritual journey:
1. A thanksgiving service, where we give thanks for the gift of new life, and ask for God’s blessing on the baby and their family
2. A dedication service, where we give thanks for the gift of new life, and the parents affirm their own Christian faith, committing themselves to bringing up their child to know and love God.
3. A baptism service (also called a christening), where we give thanks for the gift of new life,
the parents affirm their own Christian faith, committing themselves to bringing up their child to know and love God. We then sprinkle water on the child as a sign of God’s promise of forgiveness to all who turn to him.
If you are interested in one of these options for your child, please start coming along to one of our regular services (you’d probably find Superstars or our 10.30am service easiest to manage with little ones) and introduce yourself to us. We could then tell you more about the short course for parents, where we explain in more detail what is involved in the services, with plenty of space for questions. The course normally includes breakfast and a crèche helper to help look after the little ones!
More information about child baptisms can be found on the official Church of England christenings website.
Of course, it’s not just babies and children who can be baptised. We love baptising adults! You can watch those on our stories page.
