For this year’s Holiday @ Home event for older people, almost 30 guests and 15 helpers were transported to Italy (aka St James’ Church suitably decorated for the occasion). A cooling glass of lemonade on arrival was very welcome before we were introduced to some of the key tourist destinations. A pop-up card craft featuring the Colosseum and the opportunity for a classic “supporting the tower of Pisa” photo made some good “take-home” memories, as did decorating masks and creating tricolore pasta necklaces for the Venice Carnival. We tested our geography and our knowledge of the difference
s between various parts of the country with a “North or South?” quiz. Song and dance were not forgotten as we sang “La donna e mobile” with Placido Domingo, and joined enthusiastically in a seated tarantella. The afternoon ended with a variety of Italian-influenced delicacies accompanied by a glass of prosecco. Everyone declared they had had a lovely afternoon, and several asked where we were going next year……..
