The First 5 Years...

Since we first met in 2014 - a group of people with a heart to bring hope to those in financial hardship - God has led us on an exciting journey. The name Beacon is a picture of the hope in Jesus that we want to share.
During the first year, we helped with sorting harvest festival food for Basics Bank, Christmas Complete and a CAP Money course, and met for Bible study. In 2015 we felt that we needed to meet weekly for Bible study and prayer, to provide us with spiritual nourishment in order to be able to bless others. Later, we began to meet in prayer triplets.
The original vision included sharing a meal with those in need, which also provided an opportunity to introduce them to Jesus. At the start of 2015 we stepped out in faith and held our first Beacon supper. Four years later, we have a group of about 20 regulars at our bimonthly meals. We use food from Fareshare and there has always been more than enough, thanks to God and our brilliant cooks! We have seen God answer prayer requests, including healing.
The generosity of the whole church in providing goods for our hampers has been wonderful. These started out as Christmas, and then Easter, treats. In 2018, a need was flagged up for ‘holiday hunger’ hampers, for those families whose children have free school meals during term time, and who find the burden of providing on a tight budget one extra meal per child per day during the holidays extremely challenging. This half term 13 hampers will be delivered. Thank you all! And thank God for His constant provision.
